Lotus Notes is a desktop client that provides a number of useful features, such as e-mail, calendar and scheduling, address book, database, and programming. It employs standards-based mail protocols, such as POP3 and SMTP. Lotus Notes is a client and the server piece. Therefore, it can be used as environment and full email address to send or receive e-mail. This application has a number of disadvantages, however. Cannot share contacts and other information for purposes outside of Lotus Notes. Could not synchronize Lotus Notes Calendar with other calendars, such as Google. It's a drawback and the worst thing for the administrators who use Blackberrys.
